The companies Hilti, Oventrop, Trox, Viega and Viessmann announced today as founding members of the new BIM Center Aachen their cooperation with RWTH Aachen. The BIM Center Aachen is being built on the RWTH Aachen Campus under the scientific direction of Professor Christoph van Treeck. The initiators of the center are four RWTH institutes of the Faculties of Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Architecture, the Institute of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Building (E3D), the Institute for Energy Efficient Buildings and Indoor Climate (EBC), the Chair of Construction Informatics & Geographic Information Systems (GIA), and the Chair of Computational Design (CAAD).
With increasing automation and digitalization, the construction industry is facing a fundamental paradigm shift across the entire value chain of construction and operation. Changes in the supply chain, intelligent asset management and machine learning are important future trends that particularly affect building and clasp technology. "Many people do digital planning, but only a few can do it digitally. In particular, the transfer of digital models from planning to construction is a serious problem today, as is the technical commissioning of complex systems. Lean production is also possible across company boundaries if digital processes and interfaces for production, construction and operation are established and specialist craftsmen are qualified" says van Treeck.
The BIM Center Aachen addresses digitization in the construction industry from the point of view of manufacturers and executing companies with the aim of bringing "BIM" into execution. The focus lies on the processes and interfaces after completion of the digital planning, between production, prefabrication, delivery, assembly, construction, logistics, commissioning, documentation, maintenance, CAFM and dismantling. In addition to research and development, the new center at RWTH Aachen University will also support qualification and certification in the field of BIM in the future. The BIM Center Aachen acts as a cross-industry network between science and industry and initially focuses on technical building equipment in the start-up phase.
