Energy Monitoring and Effects on Indoor Climate
What are the tools for measuring, analyzing, and managing energy consumption data by means of building automation? How does the feedback loop from sensors through data management to user behavior look like? Why is the indoor thermal environment relevant for user satisfaction and performance? These are some of the questions we will address during the course. Theoretical foundations are, among others, the thermal comfort model by P.O. Fanger as well as relevant guidelines, legal texts, and standards (DIN EN ISO 7730 Ergonomics of the thermal environment, DIN EN ISO 50001 Energy management systems, DIN EN 16247 Energy audits). The design, analysis, and presentation of studies that integrate user surveys and indoor climate measurements (e.g., air temperature, humidity, draught) will be practiced in a tutorial. Data anaylsis (descriptive statistics, time series analysis, clustering) will also be covered and applied to real data collected during the indoor climate tutorial. During discussions, we will identify the pros and cons of comfort models and user surveys. We also discuss the opportunities and threats of Energy Performance Indicators and their derivation. Finally, practitioners’ presentations will give you interesting insights of energy monitoring and application strategies from the field. Lectures and tutorials will be held in German.
