The aim of the course "Energy and Building Services Engineering" is to provide background knowledge on a wide range of relevant factors in energy supply and building technology. During the lectures, students are provided with basic knowledge in the areas of buildings, building physics, energy, balance limits and producers as well as fossil and renewable energy sources with regard to production and conversion. The knowledge gained in this way is then used in the course of the event to assess the energetic quality of a building. In addition, political framework conditions necessary for climate protection will be conveyed. This course focuses in particular on basics of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning technology, heating load calculation, an overview of heating systems, summer heat insulation, cooling load calculation and an overview of pipe network calculation.

Content of the lecture:

The following topics are presented within the course "Energy and Building Technology":

  • Evaluation of the energetic quality of buildings
  • Calculation methods for the heating load, the summer thermal insulation, the cooling load and the pipe network design
  • Fundamentals of energy supply and the various energy sources and their production and conversion
  • Fundamentals of heating and ventilation technology
  • Political and legal framework conditions as well as funding programmes

Learning Objectives:

Within the course, the following learning objectives are pursued:

  • Students are taught basic knowledge in the areas of buildings, energy, balance limits and producers.
  • Students learn calculation methods for the monthly calculations according to DIN 4108 Part 6 and heating load calculation according to DIN EN 12831.
  • Systems for building technology and generation such as ventilation systems, solar thermal systems, biomass and geothermal energy can be combined by means of of defined boundary conditions.
  • Students can check the proof of the summer thermal insulation and carry out cooling load calculations.
