HOffEn – Remote working and energy transition. Implications of mobile working and opportunities the transitioning energy system

  Projektbild_HOffEn

Due to the Corona pandemic, new momentum came into the perception and use of remote and mobile working. In this joint project, the energetic and non-energetic implications of this far-reaching change and ist relevance for the energy transition are investigated. The objectives are (1) to analyze the future impact of the change from traditional work environments to remote and mobile working on energy consumption, (2) to determine under which boundary conditions this change can be utilized in the implementation of the energy transition, and (3) to provide recommendations for practitioners (individuals, companies, policy makers) to design their remote and mobile working in a way that promotes health and contributes to the energy transition. Methodologically, a mixed-method approach is applied and analyzed from engineering and social science perspectives. Employees, decision-makers and experts will be surveyed by means of an extensive online survey in combination with qualitative, in-depth interview methods. As additional approaches, energetic building simulations will be conducted and physiological data will be collected through wearables. The results will be made available to the public in the form of checklists, self-checks and planning aids for the implementation of health-promoting and energy-efficient home office variants.
