Energy in buildings and districts

The group “energy in buildings and districts” focusses on energy analysis, simulation and concepts of individual buildings, building groups and neighbourhoods in combination with energy producers and networks. Regarding the integration of renewable energies into energy systems and the decarbonisation of the heating sector, the following topics are closely examined: determination of energy demand and generation of load curves with physical models, building performance simulation, simulations in the field of shallow geothermal energy, heat pump modelling as well as planning, dimensioning and conceptual design of innovative energy systems. The building simulations range from detailed models of individual buildings and building groups to simplified approaches for urban quarters. The coupling of the individual models with clear data exchange formats defines an interface to the group "Computational Engineering". In addition, tasks in the field of facade technology and refurbishment of building envelopes are carried out. Mathematical models are validated and building physics investigations are analysed by measurements on facades at the original scale. Solutions for an energetically optimised building envelope with high user acceptance are developed in a cross section of dynamic simulation, real test laboratory and occupancy comfort.
